This Privacy Policy describes how MyLegacyJournals ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information in connection with your use of our mobile application, "MyLegacyJournals", a voice-to-text journaling app focused on legacy preservation and family storytelling.

1. Data Collection and Use

We collect information you directly provide to us (such as when creating your journal entries or setting up sharing) and information necessary to operate and secure the App. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

A. Personal Information Collected

B. Analytics, Crash Reporting, Advertising and Payments

Analytics: We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand which features are used and how the App performs. This covers app activity — screens opened, features used, and general device information. It does not include the content of your journal entries. We have disabled the Advertising ID on Android, so this data is not used to build an advertising profile.
Crash Reporting: We use Google Firebase Crashlytics to receive an automatic report when the App crashes. A report contains your device model, operating system version, the sequence of screens leading to the crash, and a pseudonymous account identifier. It does not contain your journal entries, recipient details or attachments.
Advertising: We do not display ads, use remarketing services, or sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.
Payments: The App offers optional paid subscriptions. Purchases made inside the App are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play under their own terms. We never receive or store your full card details. We use RevenueCat to record which subscription you hold; it receives a pseudonymous account identifier and the details of your purchase, not your name or journal content.

2. Data Usage and Processing

We use the information we collect strictly to provide, maintain, and improve the App's core services:

Service Delivery: To enable core features like voice-to-text transcription, storing journal entries, creating PDF books, and managing family sharing settings.
Communication: To respond to support requests and send essential service emails. We use SendFox for email communications: https://sendfox.com/privacy.
Authentication & Notifications: To securely verify your identity (via Google Sign-in or Apple Sign-in) and send push notifications (via Firebase).
Security: To detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent or illegal activity.

3. Data Sharing & Third Parties

We share your data only with essential third-party service providers required to operate the App securely and reliably. We do not sell your personal information.

4. The Legacy Engine: Release After Death or Inactivity

The App's central feature lets you arrange for your journals to be delivered to people you choose, after your death or after a period of inactivity that you set. This section explains the data that makes that work.

What we store: the names and contact details of the recipients you nominate; the names and contact details of any validators you appoint to confirm your death; the release condition you choose; and which journals are attached to it.
People who have not signed up: your recipients and validators may not be users of the App. We hold their contact details solely to carry out your instructions, and we do not use them to market anything. You are responsible for having a lawful basis to give us their details — in practice, for telling them you have nominated them.
Death verification: where you appoint validators, we record their confirmation and the date it was given. Where you choose an inactivity trigger, we record the date you last used the App in order to measure it.
On release: the journals you attached are sent to the recipients you named. Once sent, that content is in their hands and we cannot recall it.
Changing your mind: you can edit or delete a legacy arrangement at any time before it is triggered. Deleting your account cancels every arrangement attached to it.

5. Your Rights and Legal Compliance (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, CalOPPA)

We are committed to respecting your privacy rights, particularly those granted under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act/California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA).

A. Data Retention and Deletion Policy

We retain your personal information and user-generated content for as long as your account remains active or as needed to provide you with the App's services.

Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data at any time directly within the App settings or by submitting a request to support@mylegacyjournals.app. Once an account deletion request is processed, your data will be permanently deleted from our primary servers within 30 days and from backup systems within 90 days, unless retention is required by law.
Making a request: to request access to your data or its deletion, email support@mylegacyjournals.app. We respond within 30 days.

B. EU/UK Users (GDPR Rights)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the UK, you have the right to access, rectify, erase (right to be forgotten), restrict processing, object to processing, and the right to data portability regarding your personal data.

C. California Residents (CCPA/CPRA Rights)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to Know (access specific pieces of data we collected), the right to Delete (have your data deleted), and the right to Non-Discrimination for exercising your rights. We do not sell or share (for cross-context behavioral advertising) your Personal Information.

6. Security and Children's Privacy

A. Data Security

We implement commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, especially your sensitive journal entries, from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access. This includes using secured connections (HTTPS) and appropriate security protocols for our cloud hosting providers.

B. Children’s Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

The MyLegacyJournals App is strictly for users 13 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately so we can take steps to delete such information.

7. Updates and Contact

A. Policy Updates

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the Effective Date at the top of the policy and, where appropriate, through a notice within the App or via email.

My Legacy Journals is operated by DebbieIgnites Innovations Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 16552663, which is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.

If you are in the UK or the EEA and you believe we have handled your data improperly, you may complain to your data protection authority. In the UK this is the Information Commissioner's Office, ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. We would rather you came to us first, but you do not have to.
